Science College

Our beautifully refurbished laboratories, funded through Science Specialist Status, demonstrate our commitment to the pursuit of high quality learning and teaching in Science. We hope that many of our ‘makers of the Future’ will be encouraged to take up Science related careers.

Since achieving Specialist Status the Science Department have been very active in working with our partner schools and in promoting science. Boutcher and Cathedral Schools have visited St Saviours and St Olave’s on a project involving geology and fossil identification and Year 5 students from St Jude’s joined some of our Year 7 to conduct some experiments as part of their learning on investigations. We have also provided our partner schools with equipment and given advice on usage.

We recently teamed up with James Allen Girls school for joint trip to CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland, to visit and experience the scientific and technological miracle of the largest Physics experiment ever devised, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). You can find out more about the trip by clicking on the icon.

We regularly take our older students to Higher Education institutions to attend lectures, seminars, revision conferences and get a feel for scientific research. With strong links with UCL and Imperial College, London, graduates and post graduates regularly come to our science department and talk to our Sixth Formers about careers in science.

The Science department runs a weekly Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics club every Tuesday after school. The club is over-subscribed and well attended. Year 7, 8 and 9 girls get to learn about different topics and have a go at a range of investigations.
